Consequences of Failure to Report

Failure to report about the spill to the management affected both the clients and the hospital negatively. A woman slips on the floor and breaks her hip from the accident. She feels that the hospitals should have put some measures in place to prevent such accidents from happening.Critical Decision Making for Healthcare Providers

Impact of Failure to Report

First, failure to report the matter affected the patient’s safety. The woman who slips on the floor initially considered the hospital as a safe place where accidents could not happen. Nonetheless, the accident that breaks her hips indicates that the patient’s safety in the hospital was compromised. Additionally, failure to report about the spill had an impact on the risk for litigation. The patient is likely to take a legal action against the hospital for its ignorance and careless. The hospital would, in turn, be expected to compensate her for the suffering. Furthermore, his responseaffectedthe organization’s quality metrics. The patient associates the services provided by the hospital with low quality. Poor quality services results to a negative impact on the reputation and image of the healthcare facility(Marakanon & Panjakajornsak, 2017). This perspective will result to a drastic decline in the number of clients seeking healthcare services from the hospital. Thus, the level of income and profit margin of the hospital will reduce significantly. Finally, Mike’s action will affect the workload of other departments in the hospital. Failure to report had an impact on the workload of the emergency department. Practitioners working in this department had to attend to the patient following the accident. Additionally, the workload of the human resource department increased since the HR manager had to find employees who were supposed to clear the spill and ensure the necessary disciplinary measures are taken against them.Critical Decision Making for Healthcare Providers

Strategy to Address the Issue

As Mike’s manager, I would address the matter to prevent other employees from making such mistakes in the future. First, I would emphasize the importance of patient safety to the clients and the entire organization. Therefore, all staff members should give the patient safety priority. According to Morley and Cashell (2017), healthcare workers should collaborate to promote the patient’s safety. Employees should address issues that are likely to compromise the patient’s safety, even if a person is not the one in charge. Secondly, I would emphasize the need to report any matter in the future to the relevant authorities for the appropriate measures to be taken.Critical Decision Making for Healthcare Providers

In conclusion, failure to report the issue had an impact on the patient and the entire hospital. The spill resulted in an accident. The accident triggered the patient to change her perspective regarding the level ofpatient safety in the hospital. This change in perspective results inthe negative reputation of the hospital, which declines the number of clients and the profit margin. Additionally, failure to report increased the workload of various departments, including emergency and HRM.
