Question Description
I’m working on a humanities writing question and need an explanation to help me learn.
1.What caused the Salem witch crisis of 1692? Use Evidence C and D in addition to the provided map, biographies, circle of accusations, and the video watched. (think about sociological, cultural, political, and economic reasons)
2. Why do you think the people of Salem believed the girls’ accusations of witchcraft? Use Evidence A and B in addition to other data provided.
3. In many cultures witches are equally male or female, but in Europe and America witches are predominantly female. What was the underlying gender ideology that made this the case? Do you think this is still true? If so, to what extent? (Textbook, video)
4. Can you think of any examples from everyday life where we do witch hunting? Think at the individual, group, and the international level. (Creating “US” vs. “THEM”)
5. Looking back at the Great Witch Craze in Western Europe and Salem Witch Hunts, think about what kind of lessons can we learn from them? (Ethnocentric views vs. religious pluralism)
