Health Policy and Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse
The selected three core competencies of advanced practice nursing include quality, policy, and independent practice. Quality competency is important in ensuring that an advanced nurse practitioner provides high-quality care and adheres to the required professional knowledge and standards to ensure the provision of high-quality care. A nurse practitioner should use the latest research evidence to apply in the clinical practice to improve the quality of care (Hamric et al; 2014). Mastering the quality competency significantly improves practice by ensuring that the best and latest research findings are applied to clinical practice. In addition, research is used to assess the organizational operations and inform policies and thus facilitating the implementation of the relevant improvements and implementation of health policies (Sastre-Fullana et al; 2017). I will continue to develop quality competency by always engaging in research to ensure my practice is informed by the best and latest research findings. Home Health Care Management & Practice

The second selected competency is policy. A nurse practitioner can influence the implementation of policies that support better care delivery. For example, a nurse practitioner should support the implementation of policies that support improved access to care, affordable healthcare and better quality of care. ANPs should use the best and latest evidence available to influence decisions that lead to a better quality of care, better access to care, and improved work environment for nurses (Arabi et al; 2014). In the future, I plan to always use the best evidence available to advocate for the implementation of policies that support increased access to healthcare for vulnerable groups such as the poor and people with mental disorders. I will also support professional organizations that advocate for the implementation of policies supporting health improvement for all and a better working environment for the nursing workforce.
The independent practice competency ascertains that nurse practitioners can work as licensed independent practitioners. Nurse practitioners can deliver care without being supervised. This includes the ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients independently (Sastre-Fullana et al; 2017). Being able to practice independently as an ANP improves access to care and addresses the issue of workforce shortage because ANPs can provide similar services provided by physicians. I will develop this competency by ensuring that I continually improve my clinical skills when it comes to the assessment, diagnosis, as well as treatment of patients. This will make me competent to practice independently as an NP and according to the state laws. Home Health Care Management & Practice
