In education it is important to incorporate teaching skills that are geared towards the learners and created a personal philosophy to assist in achieving that goal. My personal philosophy in nursing education would be to facilitate learning using first hand experiences as a nurse while incorporating the important information listed in the literature. According to the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE®) 2019 Candidate Handbook it is important to follow the six different domains in order to become successful educators (p.2). One of the domains listed is to facilitate learning. Facilitating learning has many definitions listed in the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE®) 2019 Candidate Handbook. In my personal philosophy, facilitating learning would entail implementing a variety of teaching strategies, changing those strategies based on the population present, and using technology to assist in the learning (National League for Nursing/Customer Service, p.6). Another domain that is important to incorporate in learning is to use assessment and evaluation strategies. Assessment and evaluation strategies are used when current research is constantly being assessed in order to update the information that is taught to the students. It is important for the educator to make sure that the latest research is included in their personal teaching philosophy (National League for Nursing/Customer Service, p.7). The third domain is to participate in curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes. In this domain it is important to keep the syllabus up to date with the latest outcomes, objectives, and competency statements. It is important to do this while incorporating the institution that the learning is taking place. The mission statement and philosophy of the institution should be listed somewhere on the syllabus (National League for Nursing/Customer Service, p.8). In my personal philosophy I would incorporate Watson’s Theory of Caring. The goal of this theory is to create an educational experience in nursing that is based on true education and includes the professional nursing philosophy and values that are up to date with the current nursing practice, research and education (Billings & Halstead, p. 581 ).
