Australia has robust evidence-based processes for assessment of new health technologies, clinical practices and medications through the national Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) and Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC). Although these processes are rigorous and provide trustworthy information, they do not address all the requirements of healthcare decision-makers. MSAC decisions only cover therapeutic and diagnostic procedures provided by doctors; they do not include activities of nursing and allied health professionals, models of care or service delivery.
