NUR2868 Role, Scope, Quality
The Joint Commission was established to help providers of health care to improve their services by setting guidelines to safe and effective care that is high in quality and value.Who it affects:The Joint Commission affects both the healthcare providers and the healthcare consumers. This organization encourages incorporation of evidence based practice byhealth care providers. This constantly changes the standards and protocol that the healthcare community uses. The consumers in turn benefit from more positive outcomes. The Joint Commission may, for example, set a standard of cleaning protocols for C. diff patient’s rooms based on research articles defining the cleaning process. The consumers would then be less likely to spread C. diff leading to less infection and shorter hospital stays. How it is utilized:The Joint Commission gives certificates to facilities once they have shownadherence to their standards for four months prior to an inspection. In some states the facility can then submit this to the state to qualify for Medicaid and Medicare. The healthcare facilities can also display this certificate to the public to show that they are adhering to high levels of quality in their delivery of healthcare. They are also quoted in literature when the standers of specific situations are being discussed. Healthcare workers also hear about them when standardsof care are being explained for a facility
