The terms ‘leaders and ‘managers’ have typically been used interchangeably among nurses and viewed as being synonymous. However, the two terms are fundamental different. A manager is a formal role or status that a nurse takes on in which he or she is assigned by someone else. As a manager, the nurse is expected to take on definite responsibilities and conduct specific duties as part of a formal organization and assigned for that position.
