Patient’s Health Needs

The patient’s needs for this client encompass addressing the possible early stage of menopause that could be causing symptoms such as hot flushing, genitourinary symptoms, and night sweats (Bansal& Aggarwal, 2019). In addition, hypertension in this client is uncontrolled and this needs to be addressed. The patient is overweight (230lb) and thus the issue of weight needs to be addressed as well. Finally, the treatments and pharmacotherapeutics need to be addressed in order to improve the health care of the patient. Women’s and Men’s Health Essay Paper

Treatment Regimen

The medical conditions, comorbidities, and the current treatment regimen in regard to identifying the potential interactions of the drug will guide the prescribing. The first-choice drug for menopausal symptoms is hormone therapy including estrogen therapy. Estrogen therapy will relive the hot flushes, night sweats and prevent bone loss (Fait, 2019).

The current hypertension drugs should be maintained. Norvasc relaxes the blood vessels, and hence improves the flow of the blood. On the other hand, hydrochlorothiazideincreases the quantity of fluid released in the urine (Fares, DiNicolantonio, O’Keefe &Lavie, 2016). However, the current dose of Norvasc should be maintained while the hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg should be increased to 50 mg to improve the efficacy of the prescribed medication and effectively control hypertension for this patient.

The patient will also be advised to lose weight by adopting healthy lifestyle changes such as eating a healthy diet and being physically active (Koehler &Drenowatz, 2019). Women’s and Men’s Health Essay Paper

Patient Education Strategy

The patient will be taught how to manage the symptoms of menopause and hypertension by adhering to the treatment regimen. In addition, the patient will be advised to wear light clothing, reduce stress levels, take a cold shower, exercise regularly, and lose weight in order to manage night sweats and hot flushes (Biglia, Bounous, De Seta, Lello, Nappi, &Paoletti, 2019). The patient will also be educated on the importance of adhering to the prescribed treatment regimen. For example, adhering to the hypertension treatment will ensure effective control of hypertension.
