working in cardiology as a registered nurse
This assessment requires you to write an essay about a patient whom you have nursed in your workplace. Select a patient from your work area for case study; it is recommended that you look out for a suitable case study from early in the semester. This person must have a cardiac, cardiovascular or cardiothoracic condition. Students, who have completed CNA772, CNA540 and are enrolled in CNA519, cannot choose a topic which you have already used for an assessment. Discuss your choice with your lecturer by week 3 prior to commencing the essay.
In your essay, critically review and analyse the patient’s needs from admission through to discharge including rehabilitation or end of life care. The paper may pick up on any theme in the cardiovascular nursing framework- Health promotion, Disease prevention- primary, secondary and tertiary, and Acute and Chronic episodic interventions, Rehabilitation or Palliation1.
This assignment must include an outline of the aetiology and pathophysiology that underpins the relevant priorities in nursing management. Evidence-based literature must be used to support and rationalise the nursing care provided.
This activity is broken into two parts. 1) Part A requires you to select a theme area and enter into discussion within a group. You will be randomly selected into a group of students and you will be provided with a space (within group discussion page) at the beginning of the semester and near to the date for assessment one to negotiate your topic choice. There are several topics to choose from listed in mylo assessment 1 information area. The aim should be to avoid discussion on the same topic (e.g. avoid two people using a scenario involving cardiac rehabilitation) within your group. Any conflicts should be firstly managed respectfully within the group, and when unable to be resolved referred to the unit coordinator.
